As a responsible father, I am always amazed by the many negative media images and entertainment depictions of fatherhood. Despite these portrayals, there are those who are committed to doing what is best in their child’s interest. I have had the privilege of witnessing great examples of fathers from members of my family, community fatherhood initiatives, and men’s fellowship groups at church. Inspired by their dedication to answering the call, I began reaching out to neighbors, community activists, industry professionals, religious leaders, and politicians in search of what fatherhood means to other men. What I discovered is across various ethnic backgrounds, sadly there is an alarming deficiency of father involvement which is critical to a child’s development. As an independent filmmaker, I felt compelled to enlighten others who embrace the negative stereotypes as well as inspire fathers who may have fallen short to make a change. Incorporating footage from fatherhood initiative programs, along with intriguing interviews from fathers, social advocates, celebrities, along with special commentary from Harvard Professor Dr. Alvin Poussaint, this documentary will delve into the realities of the struggles and joys of fatherhood.
